| Horizon Forestry™
maintains a large fleet of Colorado's most advanced and powerful
tree spraying and pesticide application equipment including
High Volume High Pressure (HVHP) and FMC
Rotomist® sprayers capable of effectively treating
even the tallest Pines and Spruces.
A successful bark beetle pesticide application program has
four objectives;
- Diagnosis of the problem.
- The right chemical and rate.
- Proper timing.
- Thorough coverage.
When considering a pesticide applicator, consider the following;
- The effectiveness of control and treatment of the spread
of Mountain, Pine, Ips, Spruce and other bark beetles varies
dramatically by the technology used in the application of
the pesticide as well as the pesticide used itself.
- A programmed approach to pesticide
application has the highest success rate including spring,
mid-summer and fall applications. This approach will provide
the best results in protecting high-value, specimen or older
growth trees.
- Large and older growth trees, as well as trees stressed
by drought, over-crowding or other environmental factors
have proven to be the most susceptible to beetle attack.
- High Volume High Pressure (HVHP) pesticide
application technology has proven itself as the most effective
means in combating invading beetles, with other technologies
providing varying degrees of success.
Important Note:
Recent studies conducted by the US Forest
Service have shown the use of Micro-injection as a means of
pesticide application as being an ineffective control in stopping
the spread and infestation of Mountain, Pine, Ips, Spruce
and other bark beetles.
Horizon Forestry™ supports multiple pesticide application
technologies and capabilities including:
- Advanced High Volume High Pressure (HVHP)
sprayers capable of reaching heights in excess of 100' @
800 PSI and 65 GPM.
- FMC Rotomist® sprayers that deliver
pesticides in a focused stream of air to the highest heights
and can treat large forested areas economically and in a
short amount of time.
- Conventional Low Volume Low Pressure (LVLP)
sprayers for use on smaller trees 30' or less in lawns,
residential and light commercial environments.
- Portable Backpack Mist Blower sprayers
for use on steep, rugged or difficult terrain.
Horizon Forestry™ is Colorado's only commercial applicator
to utilize the rugged all-terrain capabilities of the Mercedes
Unimog. With it's unique capabilities we can move
our equipment through areas previously unreachable by conventional
4x4 trucks and pickups.
Our offices stock a complete line of pesticides for the control
of bark beetles including Permethrin
E-Pro, Carbaryl
4L®, Astro®,
Dragnet®.and Onyx®
Please allow a Horizon Forestry™ representative evaluate
your site, management plan and controls for Mountain, Pine,
Ips, Spruce and other bark beetles.
