| Foliar fertilization
and deep-root feeding show promise in strengthening a trees
natural immunity to attack by Mountain, Pine, Ips, Spruce
and other bark beetles.
While not considered an adequate treatment alone to combat
an infestation of bark beetles, fertilization promotes tree
health along with natural pitch production, the trees natural
defense against boring beetles. Under certain circumstances
a tree under attack is able to "Pitch Out" a boring
beetle, killing the boring insect by encapsulating the beetle
in pitch or sap.
Studies have shown healthier trees to be far more resistant
to beetle attack. We believe that foliar or deep-root fertilization
combined with a programmed
approach to pesticide application to be the most effective
means of protecting high-value, specimen and old growth trees.
A Horizon Forestry™ representative would be pleased
to evaluate your site, management plan and controls to stop
the spread of Mountain, Pine, Ips, Spruce and other bark beetles
and determine if foliar or deep-root fertilization is right
for you.
